Across the United States, memorials are being held to honor the victims of the September 11 attacks, marking the 25th anniversary of the devastating events. On that day, the mastermind behind the attacks, Osama bin Laden, traveled to a remote area in eastern Afghanistan with a small group of associates, unaware that the coordinated hijackings he had orchestrated months earlier were unfolding. The 19 hijackers, dispatched over a year prior, crashed planes into the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon near Washington, D.C., resulting in nearly 3,000 deaths. Bin Laden, unable to witness the attacks in real time due to limited communications, learned of the unfolding tragedy through radio broadcasts as the news broke.
