Meta, the parent company of Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp, has been dealt another significant blow in its ongoing battle against allegations of harming children. A New Mexico judge has ruled that the tech giant must pay an additional $567 million in damages, bringing the total amount owed to a staggering figure. This latest ruling comes as part of a class-action lawsuit that accuses Meta of knowingly designing its platforms to be addictive and detrimental to young users. The lawsuit claims that the company's algorithms prioritize engagement over user well-being, leading to a range of negative consequences for children, including increased rates of depression, anxiety, and cyberbullying.
