Tensions are running high in Memphis, Tennessee, after the deaths of two Black men in separate incidents involving law enforcement. The National Association for the Advored People (NAACP) has now stepped in, calling for a federal investigation into the actions of the Memphis Safe Task Force, a joint law enforcement initiative launched by former President Donald Trump. The task force has been criticized for deploying federal and military officers into the city with inadequate training for civilian policing, raising concerns about the potential for excessive force and racial bias. In a scathing letter to acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, the NAACP is demanding a thorough and transparent probe into the task force's activities, as well as the suspension of the program altogether. The NAACP's call for action comes as the city grapples with the aftermath of two high-profile deaths, one of which involved police custody and the other at the hands of National Guard troops.
