A growing number of online map services are responding to user concerns by adjusting their default navigation settings following Google’s recent shift for American users. While some providers have already made changes to prioritize pedestrian and bicycle routes, others, including MapQuest, have confirmed they will not alter their default routing preferences. The move reflects broader discussions about how digital platforms influence travel choices and urban mobility. Users looking to avoid car-centric navigation may need to manually adjust their settings depending on the service they use.

The request comes after Google made the switch for US-based users over the weekend. MapQuest, another US map provider, said it will not change the name.
